ABB Switzerland Ltd, Corporate Research was founded in 1966 and it is one of the seven corporate research centers around the world. It presently employs about 170 persons to create innovative power and automation technologies. Since 2007, ABB Switzerland Corporate Research has been actively engaged in the R&D of next next generation power semiconductors together with ABB's semiconductor fabrication facility. In 2012, ABB announced a significant investment in a brand new research facility, part of which will be dedicated to the research and development of SiC power semiconductors for future energy efficient power electronic applications.
